KEX: Let's Cake
Kex ¿ Let's Cake ...
NEW LP
Moiras 005 LP - Limited to 330 copies
An interesting beat production coming from a surprising place, namely Hungary in the late 60s.
Although their style focused on beat music, which we also showcase on this record, the group was much more than that, thanks to their front man, Baksa-So¿s J¿nos. Their stage performance incorporated theatrical elements, some Eastern European humor, even old-fashioned hit songs. The KEX shows were always more than just concerts. Their repertoire also ranged from the settings of classical poems, through surreal songs, to sensitive, lyrical songs, all of them crowned with high-profile, psychedelic beat. After their split-up, KEX became one of the very few real Hungarian beat legends, and influenced many rock musicians.
Surprisingly great work from the Hungarian scene at the start of the 70s ¿ music that we can't understand at all, lyrically ¿ but which we really dig from a musical perspective! Kex have a way of folding together many styles at once ¿ a group who clearly come from the same garage/beat territory of so many other combos launched in the late 60s ¿ but very willing to experiment and trip things out by the time of this recording!
The guitar work is great ¿ often very spacey, and nicely distorted ¿ played with plenty of power, but never in a hard rock way ¿ which gives the record a subtle sort of power, extremely winning on the longer tracks.
Titles include "A Hetedik", "Anelli", "Pirosmadar", "Csalad", "Kanape", and "Zold Sarga".
In a great gatefold cover, with an insert too! (Numbered limited edition of just 330 copies ¿ in a beautiful gatefold sleeve!
