ARTHUR LEE & LOVE-FIVE STRING SERENADE
(NEW CD) (LAST CALL)
French reissue of New Rose Records album, originally from 1992. (Last Call Records)
Originally released by New Rose in 1993 and reissued now on extra heavy vinyl and with liner notes.
At the moment this 1992 recording is Arthur Lee´s most recent testimonial from the recording studio (four songs). Recorded with Melvan Whittington on guitar and Robert Rozelle on bass, two members of Love´s "Reel to Real" (plus Gar Stern on drums and Tony Mikessell on keyboards), songs such as "Somebody´s Watching You", "I Believe in You" or "Seventeen" expose the audience to the essence of Lee´s music.
The expresivity of Lee´s voice is captured on "Five String Serenade", a melody which would later be covered in 1996 by Mazzy Star. , "Five String Serenade", "Somebody's Watchin' You" and "You're the Prettiest Song" are excellent and are among Lee's best tunes ever.
In addition to these amazing four studio recordings you can hear Arthur Lee & Love live on six more tracks.
