Several years ago a friend of mine brought me a tape recorded live in one of Russian jazz clubs. That was Alex and Yuri. I traced them down asked them to do an album for me and here it is. One of my favourite Russian Fusion tracks ever was Dervish by Yuri Parfenov and his 70s band Boomerang (see compilation Red Square Groove). I asked them to do a new version for me and was very happy with outcome. Another fav of mine is Night Watch that is in a similar mood that I call ¿Lonnie Liston Smith with a touch of East". Title track is so funky that inspired us to do a couple of dance remixes. Ganga, Zoroaster's Cube and Sphinx's Dream are under strong Indian influence with an excellent Keshab Kanti Chowdhury on tabla. A Hookah In The Evening, Elrisha and Minaret are deep extremely soulful and spiritual jazz/ambient ballads. Oh, You my Field is a classic fusion track with an accent on a strong rhythm and excellent two solos: Yuri's on trumpet and Volkov on bass clarinet. This album is a must for every Fusion lover. Future classic!
