BRIGITTE BARDOT -

Brigitte Bardot Sings

NEW CD

Brigitte Bardot was nearly 30 years old by the time this debut album was released, but by that point she'd already racked up a filmography as long as your arm. In-keeping with her brand image, the music is defined by a kind of saucy frivolity spanning all manner of disparate genres.

The album gets underway with Serge Gainsbourg's 'L'appereil a Sous', a one-and-a-half minute romp through classic '60s pop frippery, before

'Les Amis De La Musique' sees Brigitte delve into some Jazz-age, ragtime flavoured fun and games.

Next comes the Latin American-influenced 'El Cuchipe', which doesn't seem quite daft enough for its own good. Fortunately, tunes like 'C'est Rigolo' feature enough charm and exuberance to remedy any threat of seriousness setting in. Brigitte has a go at 'Everybody Loves My Baby' (that's right, in English) and makes a right meal of phrases like "my rosy cheeks", which sound brilliantly silly. Just as you'd hope for, this album is retro bubblegum of the very highest order, exuding buckets of personality throughout its small, but perfectly formed thirty minutes.
