Armando Trovajoli-I Mostri / Il Gaucho-2 60s OST-NEW CD
Armando Trovajoli --
I Mostri/Il Gaucho ...
NEW CD
Two early 60s gems from Italian composer Armando Trovajoli -- both of them done in wonderfully playful styles! I Mostri has a creepy looking image on the cover, but the film is a comedy (starring Vittorio Gassman and Ugo Tognazzi), with a soundtrack that ranges from circus-like numbers to highly driving and rhythmic ones! There's a skittish sort of percussion on most of the tracks here -- rattling away at top speed and really giving the record a lot of energy -- sometimes in a way that's jazzy, other times tribal, and still other times with a chase/caper sort of feel! Titles include "Mostri Twist", "Kriminal Mood", "Samoa Tamoure", "Lullaby For A Tramp", "Luna Park", "La Nobile Arte", "Burlesque", and "Mostri Allegretto". Il Gaucho has an Argentinian setting, as you might guess from the title -- but the tunes are mostly in an Italian mode, and touched with just a bit of influence from the pampa! Strings are used a fair bit, but often in a lean way that can be a bit playful -- lightly stepping around other instrumentation depending on the tune, and again hitting some jazzier moments that have a great sort of 60s Roma feel. Titles include "Arrivo All'Aeroporto", "Tierra Del Sol", "Lights Of BA", "Cumbia Party", "Gaucho Tango", "La Cumbia De Manuela", and "Tarantella Fuga".
