Greetje Kauffeld --
Tender Meditation -- The 70s Jazz Group Files ...
NEW LP reissue
Great 70s work from Dutch jazz singer Greetje Kauffeld -- material pulled from three separate sessions, each of them slightly different, and each of them great! Greetje's got a warmly crafted vocal approach throughout -- one that's almost slightly soulful at points, as heard more famously on her classic album And Let The Music Play. The style here is quite similar -- rooted in jazz, but with some sweeter 70s touches at points -- a bit of Fender Rhodes here and there, and a nicely rounder, gentler tone in some of the backings.
Three tracks feature Kauffeld working with the Diamond Five -- another four are with a group that includes Rob Pronk on piano and Phil Woods on alto sax -- and the remaining five feature a quartet with Rudd Brink on tenor sax.
Titles include "Poor Butterfly", "I Fall In Love Too Easily", "The Beat Goes On", "Tenderly", "What's New", "I Get Along Without You Very Well", "It Might As Well Be Spring", and "Meditation".
