JAMES BROWN-DON'T MIND/SITTING HERE ON A TONGUE-7" SING
2 Slices of Funk Rock from the James Brown stable.
A fusion of Rock and heavy Funk Grooves.
Background
By the end of the 60's and the start of the 70's music tastes begun to change, there was serious competition to James Browns record sales from Funk-Rock bands, among them Sly & The Family Stone, the revamped Isley Brothers and Motown's Norman Whitfield productions.
As a result of this and as an attempt to keep up, JB produced and released a couple of experimental Lp's, fusing Rock with Heavy Funk grooves. 'Don't Mind', a song that will ignite any dancefloor, comes from a rare instrumental Lp by James Brown "Sho is Funky Down Here' recorded in 1970 and released in 1971, featuring The David Mathews Trio.
'Sitting Here On A Tongue' is taken from an obscure and rare Lp by The Grodeck Whipperjenny, the David Mathews trio again but with added vocals from Mary Ellen Bell and including the drummer Jimmy Madison, who was also the drummer on JB break classic 'Funky President' !!!
Originally released on People Records in 1971 it unfortunately slipped into obscurity but has always been in demand from funk and rock collectors alike
