SERPENT POWER-SERPENT POWER-'67 psychedelic folk-rock-new LP

SERPENT POWER-SERPENT POWER-

(new LP)

AKARMA
reissue

Led by poet, novelist and songwriter David Meltzer, the Serpent Power released this classic psychedelic folk-rock album in 1967.

A true representation of the San Francisco area sound in the Psychedelic era, the album features great male / female vocal harmonies, interesting but unusual lyrics and excellent guitar work.

It's also one of the first psych rock albums to have succesfully introduced the influence of Middle Eastern music, as shown in the 13-minute classic 'Endless Tunnel', some sort of raga-rock.

The Serpent Power was the brain-child of beat poet/singer David Meltzer along with wife Tina.

The young Meltzer entered the beat circle with the likes of Ginsberg and Kerouac in the late fifties. In '66, he formed Serpent Power along with Tina, guitarist Deny Ellis and bassist David Stenson.

They started with a definite 'grass roots' style, and were soon taken under the wing of Ed Denton (Country Joe), who introduced them to Vanguard. This is the one and only album recorded by the group, which was released in 1967.

The musical styles range from psychedelic to folk, with added influences from Asia.
