Atlas-Atlas-70s AUSTRIAN OBSCURE FUNK-new LP
Atlas -- Atlas ...
NEW LP
A much funkier record than you'd guess from its tripped-out cover -- a rare bit of funk from the Austrian scene of the 70s, put together with some especially heavy drums! The album's got the appeal of some of the best obscure American indie sets from the time -- and it's got a blend of jazzy instrumentation, soulful vocals, and some tightly funky undercurrents -- played in ways that are never too slick or commercial. The rhythms really drive the set -- very tight at most points, and with some sweet drums that have made the record a favorite of beatheads for years -- when they've been able to find it!
Titles include "Hey Man", "Pasteboard", "Play It Cool", "Ain't No Sunshine", "Rhode Island", "We Are Happy", "Let's Not Believe", and "Skybird Fly".
ATLAS was a short lived Austrian band/project that combined jazz and soul/funk in a unique way. The band was active from 1975 to 1978. The group consisted of various musicians from Vienna and Lower Austria and released one LP in small quantites in 1977. Responsible for the recording was Ernie Seuberth who later produced lots of Austrian new wave records in his Viennese Gorilla studio. The album contains a great cover version of 'Ain't No Sunshine' by Bill Withers
