CHIC-Le Freak Live-'96 FEAT.S.WINWOOD,SISTER SLEDGE,SLASH-NEW LP
CHIC
Le Freak Live
NEW LP
In 1976 the studio musicians Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards got together and founded CHIC. Inspired by the style of Roxy Music and impressed by Frank Farian's Boney M. they brought a completely new color in the young and fresh 70s disco culture.
Elegant, sweaty and dancable. Like no other band before Rodgers and Edwards (supported by a variable number of singers) knew how to transform rock, funk and disco into a bubbling brew and come over elegant and cool. After the success of "Dance, Dance, Dance" and "Good Times" in early 1978, the worldwide hit "Le Freak" appeared - today's most successful single of her label Warner Music.
The catchy song opened a lot of doors. Rodgers/Edwards wrote tracks for Sister Sledge and Diana Ross and worked on the records of the Rolling Stones, Madonna, David Bowie and Duran Duran. The point exactly dripping bass playing of Edwards and Rodgers braked twang guitar became their trademark and model for many funk and rock bands.
After a long break Edwards and Rodgers came together again in the early nineties as CHIC.
In 1996, the band filmed a full concert at the legendary Budokan in Tokyo for a DVD release, while they were supported by the ex-Guns n 'Roses guitarist Slash, the vocal group SISTER SLEDGE and Brit rock legend Stevie Winwood. His participation in the Hendrix cover of "Stone Free" is without any doubt one of the highlights of this record. Incidentally, this title is not on the DVD.
The concert at the Budokan, incidentally, was the last one of Bernard Edwards, Nile Rodgers’ long-time companion died shortly after the appearance. This vinyl edition is an appreciation of this extremely talented musician.
As usual on Sireena this record appears 180 gram heavy vinyl - in elaborately designed gatefold, perfectly designed by Friedel Muders / FUEGO.
Some music critics compared the musical and creative partnership of Rodgers and Edwards with John Lennon & Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. In 2005, CHIC became member of the Dance Music Hall of Fame.
