ptolemaic terrascope review:
"Basically the project of musician and writer Chris Wade, this album will be of interest to Terrascope readers for two reasons. Firstly it has contributions from Celia Humphris (Trees), Judy Dyble and Nik Turner [plus accordian player Kzrysztof Juzskiewicz, late of the mighty Skin Alley! - Phil]; and secondly because it is rather lovely, a nostalgic trip back to 1971, when folk music collided with progressive rock and became known as acid folk. Those of you who worry about the prog word will be pleased to know that this collection is acoustic and song orientated, rather than some overblown epic, with melody and warmth shining from its grooves.

Opening with “All Day Long”, the gentle mood is reminiscent of late sixties English psych, a softly rolling piece of whimsy that relaxes the senses beautifully. On “Just You and Me”, Nik Turner adds some gentle flute embellishments that dance together with the guitar riff creating a sweet ripple of sound.

With both “Meet Our May” and “Footprints” continuing the summery acoustic ambience you are soon dreaming of meadow flowers, babbling brooks and a pint of ale around a roaring fire, with the latter being particularly melodic and enchanting, complete with the sound of birdsong to enhance your daydreams.

More sombre in its mood “Nothing At All” has an aching cello running through it, with Mr Wade's vocals seemingly perfectly suited to the song, as his short and effective guitar solo. Equally reflective, “Say Goodbye” is a delightful tune, the backing vocals of Judy and Celia perfectly realised, contributing much without being overpowering.

Adding a bit of rock to the folk, albeit powered by bongos, “Endless Sky” is acoustic hippy psych, with some distorted electric guitar adding bite to the proceedings, echoes of the summer of love coursing through its veins. After the slightly strange lyrics of “The Slime”, we come to one of the most atmospheric and gorgeous songs on the disc as “Weather Changes” floats into your mind, a simple guitar line weaving magical textures with soft vocals and electric guitar, a song that ends far too soon.

Finally “Crinkle Drive” leads us out, the flute lighting the way home, ending a fine album that will remind you of summer and the joy of living. "

Dodson And Fogg is the critically acclaimed music project by singer-songwriter Chris Wade. It has been called lots of things such as acid folk, psychedelic folk rock and prog folk but Chris prefers to think of himself as a songwriter (oh yes he does) and Dodson and Fogg as the vehicle for his varied ideas.  There have been  appearances by Nik Turner (Hawkwind), Nigel Planer and the great Celia Humphris, of folk legends Trees.

CHRIS WADE - Songwriter, vocalist and multi instrumentalist for Dodson and Fogg. Will remain involved as long as Chris Wade wants him to be. Which could be a while, as they both get on quite well.

CELIA HUMPHRIS - Legendary voice of folk band Trees. She is a voice artist and has sang on many Dodson and Fogg tracks, adding her unique talent to the music. Legend and my fave singer

COLIN JONES - Accomplished trumpet player, does much session work in a wide field and also gets roped into dodgy dealings with Chris Wade and Dodson and Fogg from time to time.

NIK TURNER - The legendary Thunder Rider of Hawkwind played flute on the first LP and briefly on Derring Do. Continues to thrill the world with his far out sax and flute adventures.

AMANDA VOTTA - Flute player with her own project Floating World appeared on Derring Do, playing flute on Dreams of You and Me. May also appear in the future...

ALISON O'DONNELL - The Mellow Candle legend appeared on the Derring Do  and After the Fall albums. She is still a very active musician

UDY DYBLE - Another folk legend appeared on the first album, she of Fairport Convention, Trader Horne and solo fame. Sang on Weather Changes. Continues to work.

RICKY ROMAIN -
Accomplished sitar player and artist, has his own "Sitar and Tabla" live set up. Plays on The Call album. Decent bloke.

KEVIN SCOTT -
The Canadian musician and man behind Mr Pine co wrote a track with me and plays some mean piano.

KRZYSZTOF JUSZKIEWICZ  - Played accordion on The Slime from the first album. He was a member of prog band Skin Alley in the 70s.

CHLOE HERINGTON -
Famous for her bassoon and sax work with innovative band Knifeworld. Done some sax on The Call album

ANDY WADE -
"Best brother a guy ever had" and all round chum. Plays banjo and also does Rexford Bedlo with me too

ALISON O'DONNELL - The Mellow Candle legend appeared on the Derring Do  and After the Fall albums. She is still a very active musician

SCARLET RIVERA - World renowned violin player, known for her work with the legendaryDylan on the Desire album. Amazing player

NIGEL PLANER - One of my all time favourite actors narrates two dreamy monologues on In A Strange Slumber. Sings on Roaming album.

TOYAH -
Music legend and rock icon, honoured to have her on a track. Fab!

OTHER MUSICIANS - Alice White (Violin on first album), Ellie Davies (Cello on first album), Thomas
Roberts and David Liam Roberts (Strings on In A Strange Slumber), Georgia Cooke (Flute on various albums), Valerio Antognelli (Sax), Nick Jolly (Trumpet), Daisy and the Dark (Vocals on Roaming album), John Garner (Violin on White House on the Hill album).
