GROUP 1850 - AGEMO'S TRIP TO MOTHER EARTH + 10

(NEW CD) (ROTATION)

Dutch release; NOT on Double Dutch. Reissue of album, including 10 BONUS tracks.

"The Dutch aren't really known for their effects on the music world but they did have several good psychedelic rock bands in the 60s, the best perhaps being Group 1850. I hadn't actually heard of the guys until recently but decided to give them a swirl, I ended up listening to this album whilst trying to get some work done but it was impossible - the strangeness growing on seemed to be frying my brain but at the same time was rather intriguing.

The band set up in 1964 but it took them until 1968 to release this debut album - Agemo's Trip To Mother Earth. I immediately became a fan and sought to buy an LP version of for my dad - it's certainly not cheap though, it seems the album came with 3d glasses and if they are unperforated it's a pricey collector's item. The LP version will set you back around a 100 quid, the CD is a more modest tenner.

It's a bit of a masterpiece, largely sounding like early Pink Floyd but with hints of The Doors thrown in, they are very much their own band though and pretty unique. It's of little surprise that it's been dubbed "the most psychedelic record of all time", I really have no idea what's going on and it's not probably not worth wasting time trying to interpret it!

It's really crazy stuff, the track "Zero" has distinct ska grooves in it yet at the same time it's a Pink Flodyish hippy track. Well worth checking out if you like something different!"
