Side 1:

Massai/ Dr Rubberfunk Re-Splice
Remix, re-edit and additional production December 2006 by Dr Rubberfunk aka Simon Ward for Funkydown Productions. Dr Rubberfunk appears courtesy of GPS Records.

Dr Rubberfunk aka producer, musician, radio presenter and DJ Simon Ward from London hits African ground with his razor sharp re-splice of “Massai”, adding own drums, bass and guitar work to the menue. An outstanding rework, like only the Dr can do!! With a chopped and fanfare-like brass riff, heavy bongos, guitar licks and a steamy bass line,  Dr Rubberfunk built a tune that could be added to a list of block party highlights or funk breaks classics like Spaghetti Head`s “Funky Axe” ... but letting the melody drown towards a unique and spiritual “downbeat” ending. A tricky afro breaks intro, with special B-Boy bonus beats on the B-Side!

Massai/ Matt Flores Refix feat. Glittershine
All additional recordings by Matthias Flores & Silver Brown November 2006 at Metaworld. Matt Flores appears courtesy of Combination Records.

Matt Flores of Combination and Compost fame touches the real Rastafari roots with the toasts of Glittershine aka Silver Brown! “Matz” is throwing reggae, dub and ghettotech into the mix, transforming the afro drums of “Massai” into an autonomous breakbeat anthem of its own, but with the special “Flores touch”. This is freestyle and a new hymn to Jah! Emerging in Jamaica among peasant black people in the early 1930s, Rasta or the Rastafari movement is a religion and philosophy that accepts Haile Selassie I, the former emperor of Ethiopia, as God incarnate, whom they call Jah. It has spread throughout the world, largely through interest generated by reggae or roots dub music – that`s why the new spiritual lyrics of “Massai refixed” should set the people free!

Holz/ Bird Re-Whistle
Remix and additional Production by Christian Kaltenhofer December 2006. Bird appears courtesy of Liebe* Detail Records.

Bird aka producer & DJ Christian Kaltenhofer from Cologne transformed the calm and spiritual track “Holz” into an awesome electro & tech house swinger. He embedded Donald Coleman`s exotic bamboo flute in various percussion parts to arrange his very own African midtempo groove! The fine skills of Bird show, why his first release “Solaris” on Liebe Detail Records went straight to the “essential mix”-playlist of Richie Hawtin Vs. Ricardo Villalobos in October 2005.

Side 2:

Kenia/ Curv`s Mainland Edit
Remix and additional Production by Curv aka Rainer Düring at Orange Coffee  October 2006. Curv appears courtesy of Vinyl Vibes Records

Curv aka Rainer Düring from Berlin already released on labels like Stereo Deluxe, Vinyl Vibes or Vienna Scientists (as “Thrust”) and is constantly producing for his own label Orange Coffee. Rainer picked “Kenia”, combining straight house beats, heavy brass, tribal chants and additional analogue keys for his awesome rework. “A new version, that we can dance to in clubs around the world”, he pointed out.

Shango/ Palmreaders Re-Lecture
Remix and addtional production by Serge Hauppe & Ekkehart Fleischhammer December 2006 for Sonorama. Palmreaders appear courtesy of Sonorama Records.

Palmreaders is a new combination of producers consisting of Serge Hauppe (of Cartoonfish fame/ Cologne) and Ekkehart Fleischhammer (DJ and Sonorama label manager/ Düsseldorf). They are fusing jazzy trumpet & trombone sounds, broken electro beats, rhodes licks and original African percussion within their “Shango Re-lecture”, that is oscillating between the melodic trumpet motive and a steamy funk bass. We call it Afro jazz for the new millenium.

Massai/ Dr Rubberfunk B-Boy Bonus Beats
Remix, re-edit and additional production December 2006 by Dr Rubberfunk aka Simon Ward for Funkydown Productions. Dr Rubberfunk appears courtesy of GPS Records.
