Though the overall sound isn't far from mainstream guitar rock, the songs have a somewhat snide chip on their shoulder, that of guys who bear their emotional scars with pride. The music's not quite as nasty as the lyrical attitude, which sometimes leaves the feeling these guys are always on the run or about to split town to escape trouble. While the music to "Rare Beauty" plays it pretty straight, it's hard to tell if the lyrics are seriously sexist or a not-so-tongue-in-cheek page from Spinal Tap's book of parodies, with brags about "pushin' on her cushion" and boastful paeans to her thighs, rear, "extra bun," and so on. ~ Richie Unterberger
