Tiger Tales - Feels Good But It's Not b/w Backstabber

(Debut 45 By Vienna's Answer To The Retro Deep Funk Boom ) Tiger Tales/AUT

NEW 7 "

"tiger tales¿ is Austria`s first ¿alternative¿ retro soul band playing in the likes of the old 60s/70s rare soul and funk tunes.

With this program the band already performed at a lot of vienna¿s top locations such as Birdland or Porgy & Bess within the first year of its existence.

In other countries the alternative retro sound is practiced already for a while by acts such as Quantic Soul Orchestra, Bamboos, Nicole Willis, Sharon Jones, Sweet Vandals etc. In this category ¿tiger tales¿ may be placed as well, although there are a few aspects distinguishing it from a lot of other bands of the genre.

This begins with the stilistic variety in their compositions: rather than focusing on one specific sound or groove (James Brown, Northern¿), the band doesn`t shy to combine any kind of high energy 60s soul from early R&B, Boogaloo, Southern Soul, Northern Soul, Motown with modern funk breaks. Therefore their album in a way resembles a DJ set spanning across all the mentioned styles, yet always mantaining a coherence and sonic identity by the way in which it is done:

putting the emphasis on the power and message of the song and its catchy hooks on top of a powerful groove rather than the groove itself, striving for a varied dynamic arrangement instead of just wearing out the same groove patterns forever and last but not least using sometimes unconventional lyrics for this type of music altogether show a quite individual approach to the genre that establishes a recognizable trademark.
