EMBRYO-
AFRICA-
PROGRESSIVE AFRO FOLK NIGERIA-
NEW LP+CD
REISSUE
'Africa' -originally released in 1992 on Materiali Sonori- may be a late entry in Embryo's catalogue, but it was one of their most ambitious and truly progressive albums to date.
Like the name implies, the Munich group not only draws influence from the continent to their South, but even employs an African percussion ensemble on many tracks.
A hypnotic and beautiful affair reissued on LP for the first time since its original release.
Recorded in Lagos (Nigeria) in February 1985, the session shows Christian Burchard and his colleagues in full Afro mode, blending traditional folk rhythms with Embryo's progressive world music travelogues.
They're joined by two local Nigerian groups ("Yoruba Dun Dun Orchester" and "Afro Linkage Ensemble") on a miriad of traditional instruments (yoruba drums, dun dun drum, bata). Another chapter in the exotic Embryo saga!!!!
