TOM LUCAS-RED LETTER DAY-'75 -NEW CD
TOM LUCAS-RED LETTER DAY
RADIOACTIVE / UK
/ NEW CD /
9 TRACKS
TOM LUCAS RED LETTER DAY is an odyssey of creative friends pooling their talents and meager resources to bring to fruition Tom's vision of his music to date (1975):
his rockers of social justice and his journeys through poverty
his poignant ballads of being alone/together in this world
his hopes of cultural triumph over the victory culture of war
Red Letter Day is defined in the dictionary as a memorably happy event.
It was. On the way home from the RLD session we were delighted in the way it sounded on the car speakers. We did that? Yes, inspiration made it so! For most of us, this was our first foray into a real recording studio experience. The Big Apple Studio (Soho: Green Street) experience was dreamy. Sixteen tracks (remember it was '75)! Outboard Eventides! Moogs! Most importantly, a very gifted recording engineer named Vishek Woszczyk. He would bring out the slightest nuance and pump it into a monster.
With a lot of help from our friends. With special mention to Pat Pike, who understands our work and believes we'll come together. He made resources available to make it happen.
There were naysayers and angry carnival barkers:
"You shouldn't even consider doing a whole LP in 10 hours (with 13 for mixdown)!"
"We want a stadium band that makes money quick!"
And here we are now.
When UK-based label "Radioactive Records" obtained a rare copy of the vinyl LP in 2004, they dispensed with Tom's ownership rights. They photocopied the album art, making CDs by the primitive "needledrop" method, not bothering to copy the lyric insert. They neatly sealed their fraud by audaciously printing on their CDs with the poison symbol logo that "ALL RIGHTS OF THE PRODUCER AND OWNER OF THE WORKS REPRODUCED RESERVED¿UNAUTHORIZED COPYING STRICTLY PROHIBITED."
Needledrop Pirate Bridge to You:
We would ask him, if we could, if there is a way to YOU, our FANS.
We would ask him, if we could, to be a bridge to you.
Who are you who bought Red Letter Day?
What magic did he stoke to make the fire?
Is what you hear in us what we hear in what we play?
We want to share with you much more, and we want to play more, too.
Buy from us, be with us, and by all means email us.
There will be more and more.
And one day we will build a bridge for the Needledrop Pirate to cross back.
Out from hiding.
